Our very own Tanja Hinder was recognized last week by the Consulate of Switzerland for her success as a designer in Canada. 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of official relations between Switzerland and Western Canada, and a book titled was created to celebrate the milestone. In the book, author Ilona Shulman Spaar has gathered stories, including Tanja’s, featuring Swiss immigrants who have made their mark and contributed to Canadian industries.
Tanja originally hails from a small town near Zurich, Switzerland, and moved to Vancouver in 2005 to pursue Interior Design at BCIT. She has since found success with her own design firm, McCarthy Hinder, and as a founder and furniture designer at MTH Woodworks. In 2011, she was named furniture designer of the year by Western Living Magazine. Referring to the beginning of her career in Canada Tanja advises, “Just begin, work diligently and connect with those in your field. It’s important to have a good team and say thank you.” Tanja’s career has flourished in Canada, but the appeal of the outdoors has also kept her in B.C. She loves the temperate rainforest and the outdoor activities that come with living in Vancouver. Like a true Vancouverite, Tanja proudly states, “I go snowboarding in the morning and kayaking in the afternoon, what's not to love?”
Congratulations on the book Tanja! We're so glad you love Vancouver as much as we do.
As designers we borrow ideas and shape them to fit a space and satisfy our clients. Here is an example of our inspiration for a credenza and our design in a clients guest bedroom - size, style & color refined. Add a fabulous millworker and everyone is happy.
It feels so good when your client is tickled pink!
Make yourself a cup of tea, wrap yourself in a blanket and give yourself a visual delight. My sweet friend Patricia Larsen has created a montage of beauty on pinterest. If you know Patricia, you know technology is not her thing, but this form feeds her soul and we are the privileged recipients!
Thank you P.
